Xenometrix produces and distributes today's most advanced mutagenicity assays and cytotoxicity screening kits designed to help reduce hands-on-time, reduce the amount of compound used for testing, decrease plastic waste, and consequently lessen costs.


Ames MPF 98/100, Ames MPF 1535, Ames MPF 1537, Ames II Fluctuation Assay 

The Ames MPF 98/100, Ames MPF 1535, Ames MPF 1537 and Ames II assays are all modifications of the traditional Ames plate incorporation assay and the Mini-Ames test. The Ames MPF 98/100 uses the strains TA98 and TA100, the Ames MPF 1535 the strain TA1535, the Ames MPF 1537 the strain TA1537, the Ames MPF E.coli uvrA the strain E.coli WP2 uvrA and the Ames MPF E.coli pKM101 the strain E.coli WP2 pKM101, wherease the Ames II kit uses the S. typhimurium strains TA98 and TAMix (TA7001-TA7006). Every kit includes all reagents necessary to perform the tests. The assays are run in a liquid format in 384-well microplates within 48 hours and are based on the Ames Fluctuation Assay. They are automatable for high throughput screening.

The Ames MPF and the Ames II kits use all at least 3 times less test compound than tests performed in agar plates, they both reduce hands-on time, and require substantially less consumables than the traditional systems.

All Ames MPF kits are available also with rat liver S9 and with positive controls (see Products).

Endocrine Disruptors: YES/YAS

Synthetic chemicals in the environment that are associated with adverse reproductive and developmental effects in wildlife mimic the actions of sex hormones.

Of major concern are such chemicals that are found in waste and surface waters, but also in certain industrial products such as plastic food containers, chemical mixtures or cosmetic products. They may interfere with the endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological and immune effects in animals and humans.

Xenometrix now offers an all-included assay kit XenoScreen YES/YAS for the detection of substances activating or inhibiting  the human estrogen and androgen receptors (agonistic and antagonistic action).  The receptors are stably integrated in the yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) chromosome and can activate a reporter gene system upon binding of estrogenic or androgenic compounds.

Multiple Endpoints: Cytotoxicity Screening Kits 

The test kits are used in early screening to determine several cytotoxicity endpoints in eukaryotic cells. A full range of parameters is offered: XTT, MTT, Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH), Sulforhodamine B (SRB), Neutral Red (NR), Crystal Violet (CVDE), Acid Phosphatase (PAC), Glucose (GLU), allowing the measurement of respiratory chain activity, membrane integrity, total protein synthesis, lysosomal activity, DNA content/cell number and metabolic activity.The Cytotoxicity Screening Kits allow to determine up to four cytotxic parameters from the same cellular sample! This technical optimization using multiple endpoints allows to reduce test compound consumption and handling time. It further eliminates test-to-test variability due to potential variables such as passage number, time-since-plating, cell density, and medium age. Differences in IC50 values between assays reflect therefore more accurately the varying response of cellular functions to toxicants.Using 4 sequential cytotoxicity tests greatly enhances chances to detect toxicants which might go unnoticed if only 1 assay was used. This becomes even more pronounced in experimental set-ups where only 1 exposure time is used. The combined kits allow also to make optimal use of rare and valuable cell samples such as primary cells.
